The Coordinate Converter Tool facilitates testing a coordinate conversion on a single point.
Open the Coordinate Converter from the Tools Menu.
Steps to Use
-
Use Select Input Coordinate System... to select the coordinate system.
-
In the resulting pop-up, select the horizontal coordinate system.
-
If you need to convert elevations as well, choose a vertical coordinate system. Selecting a vertical coordinate system will enable entry of an elevation in the "Gravity-Related Height" field.
Please note that the "Gravity-Related Height" label is static; you can certainly choose another type of vertical coordinate system (such as Ellipsoidal Heights), and the chosen system will be used, despite the label always saying "Gravity-Related Height".
-
-
Time-dependent transformations can be enabled in Geodetic Settings. To use, a date must be entered on both the Input Coordinate System and the Output Coordinate System, to specify the epoch.
-
For more information on navigating the coordinate systems library, see: Coordinate System Support and Searching the Datasource.
-
-
Enter the coordinates for the Input Coordinate. Global Mapper will automatically recognize common degree formats such as DMS or Decimal Degrees, depending on spaces and the location of the decimal point your entry.
-
Use Select Output Coordinate System... to select the desired output coordinate system.
-
Click Pick Transform to choose a transformation. No transformation is needed if the input and output coordinate systems use the same datum (i.e. coordinate projection without datum change).
-
Click Convert to display the results.
When a conversion is made the results are automatically copied to the clipboard for easy pasting in another location using Ctrl+V. There are also buttons to allow to easily recenter the map on the coordinates or to create a new point feature at the coordinates.
Additional Options
View Transform - If a horizontal or vertical datum transformation has been picked, click here to view the transformation definition(s).
Clear - Clears all entered coordinates, chosen transformations, and resets to the default coordinate system.
Swap - Swap the input/output coordinates and coordinate reference systems. Useful for testing round-trip conversion or multi-step transformations.
Center on Output Coordinates - Centers the map view on the output coordinates (if data is loaded).
Create New Point at Output Coordinates... - Creates a new point feature in your Global Mapper Workspace at the output coordinate position.
The Coordinate Converter can be a floating window or docked into the main interface. For more information see Window Docking.
