Two Point Equidistant – Global Mapper

The Two Point Equidistant projection is generally used for large scale mapping in North America and Asia. Any line that passes through either of the two defining points shows correct distance. A variation of the projection was used for the Bell Lab's V&H coordinate system. For areas where the two defining points are separated by less that 45 degrees in the latitude and longitude, there is little distortion in distance calculations throughout the map.

NOTE: Only a spherical form of this projection is used. The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid (sphere) is used for forward and inverse projection from grid to geodetic coordinates within the system wherein this projection is incorporated.
